Nvidia Announces New System Linking its AI Chips to Quantum Computers

Nvidia has announced a groundbreaking system that connects quantum computers to its artificial intelligence (AI) chips. The new technology, called NVQLink, is designed to make complex data processing faster and more efficient. According to Bloomberg, this system could open new possibilities in medicine, materials science, and other advanced research fields.

For years, scientists have been trying to bring quantum computing into practical use, but one major challenge has been integrating it with traditional hardware. Nvidia’s NVQLink is built to solve this by reducing qubit errors and allowing quantum systems to work smoothly with conventional processors. During the Nvidia GTC event in Washington, CEO Jensen Huang said the company aims to scale quantum computers from hundreds of qubits today to tens or even hundreds of thousands in the near future.

Nvidia has teamed up with 17 quantum computing firms to move this goal forward. The company is also working closely with the U.S. Department of Energy to build seven new supercomputers equipped with AI chips. These advanced systems will not only help the U.S. maintain its nuclear arsenal but also drive research into clean energy sources such as nuclear fusion. One of the largest of these supercomputers will be developed in partnership with Oracle and powered by 100,000 Blackwell chips.

In another major collaboration, pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly has partnered with Nvidia to create a supercomputer that will accelerate the search for new medicines. The system will train AI models on millions of experiments, helping scientists identify effective drugs much faster. Eli Lilly’s senior vice president Thomas Fuchs described this as a step toward using AI as a true scientific partner. Some of these AI models will be available through Lilly’s TuneLab platform, allowing biotech companies to benefit from the technology.

Huang also touched on global and political issues, stating that the United States could lead the AI race if much of the world, including China, adopts Nvidia’s systems. He praised U.S. President Donald Trump for investing in manufacturing but warned about the risks of strained relations with China. Despite having chip orders worth $500 billion, Nvidia still views the Chinese market as crucial.

The company also announced new partnerships, including a $1 billion investment in Nokia to improve energy efficiency in 6G networks and collaborations with Palantir Technologies to enhance logistics solutions. Nvidia further revealed a new platform for self-driving cars called Hyperion, developed with Uber and Lucid Group. This marks another step in Nvidia’s growing influence across AI, computing, and transportation.

Other tech companies like D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) are also registering their own milestones in efforts to commercialize quantum computing. All this progress is poised to bring quantum computing to the mainstream sooner than has been predicted.
