Google is giving college students a new reason to bring artificial intelligence into their studies. The company has announced a free one-year offer for qualifying college students, along with additional Gemini tools designed to make studying, research and schoolwork easier.
This offer forms part of Google’s effort to expand the use of Gemini among students. College students that are eligible within the United States can access Google AI Pro for a period of 12 months at no cost. The plan normally costs $19.99 each month. Those outside the U.S. can receive a year of Google AI Plus at no cost, giving them access to several advanced Gemini features and additional cloud storage.
The benefits vary depending on the plan and location. U.S. students who qualify for Google AI Pro can access higher Gemini usage limits, Gemini Spark, Gemini features within applications such as Gmail and Google Docs, and 5 TB of storage. Students in other countries who qualify for Google AI Plus can receive higher usage limits, Gemini Omni and 400 GB of storage.
Google is also introducing a new student hub in the Gemini app. The hub brings many learning tools together in one place. Students can generate study notebooks, make flashcards as well as take quizzes to help them practice. The company says the hub will continue to gain more learning features as they become available.
One of the most useful additions is the study notebook feature. Students can upload their own learning materials, such as lecture notes, and Gemini can use them to generate a customized study plan. It can also give students a quiz to identify areas in which they need more help. Based on the results, Gemini can create smaller quizzes and lessons and provide a dashboard to track progress.
Google is also making Gemini more useful for students who learn better through visual content. Its interactive visualization feature can create elements such as simulations, 3D models, grids and tables. This could help students understand difficult subjects by allowing them to explore concepts instead of relying only on written explanations.
Another major update is coming to Gemini Live. Students can use the conversational tool to discuss assignments, study materials and research topics. With Deep Research now being integrated into Gemini Live, users can request detailed research reports while continuing to interact with Gemini. The system can work on the research in the background and notify the student when the report is ready.
Google says these tools are rolling out to Gemini users as it continues to develop the platform as a personalized study assistant.
